Planning Task 5: Photography Planning

Who will you be using as your models for each photograph?

For my photo shoot, i will need two 16-25 year old models within my front covers for the first two issues of my magazine, as this is what would appeal to my target audience. I plan to represent two different social groups within my magazine, to do this i will represent two different ethnic groups. Doing this allows my magazine to connect with a wider audience.

Location for photography?

Within the January issue of my magazine i plan to have a photo shoot outside in an urban setting, as this will reflect the winter months and complement my magazine. For my February edition of my magazine I intend to take a photo shoot in a more natural locations to contrast not only the urban setting from my first issue but also showcases the change from the winter months. I plan to take these pictured early in the day to get natural light to complement my photoshoot.

Costume?

The costumes during my january issue will be strongly influenced by the winter as not only i want to showcase fashion during the winter months but people will be more interested in this fashion as it applies to them during this time of the year. The clothes will be trendy and fashionable as it will appeal to my target audience.

Props

My photoshoot will use a limited amount of props as it intend to keep a natural look towards my photos

Who will take the photographs and what equipment will be used?

I intend to take the photos myself as I trust in my ability to take photos of high standard, in terms of equipment i plan to use my phone camera however i may equipment from friends or family in order to take best possible photos as my phone may not be the best choice as I plan to use the natural lighting to my advantage, something i don't think my phone will do well as it could cause lots of glare within the photos when using my phone camera.

Planning Task 4: Website and Homepage and Linked Page

The header of my website will include key elements such as the title and other essential tools like links ensuring that my audience can easily navigate my website.  To design my header i have taken inspiration from other Condé Nast productions such as Vogue, Tatler and GQ. I have decided to use a bold font similar to GQ making both the title and the linked pages stand out. I also plan to have a white background to make the title and linked pages contrast with the background further making them stand out.

My homepage is the main information hub which the aims of enticing my readers, this is due to the fact that the homepage is the first thing people will see when entering the website, so including captivating stories will catch the reader's attention.

Within my homepage i plan to include text and images detailing not only my feature articles ,where i'd include images to complement them, but also my homepage will feature content that isn't found within the print copies of the magazines, this helps to interest my audience into visiting the website as they will be able to find content not available within the magazine.
The two linked pages within my website will feature both celebrities and lifestyle, i have decided to include celebrities as i can include audio-visual interviews with celebrities which can't be found in magazines, further persuading my audience to visit the website as videos are an excellent way to draw in readers so taking advantage of this tool will ensure readers visit the website.

Planning Task 3: 60 second pitch

https://youtube.com/shorts/uND4bMkhSPU

In order to create my 60 second pitch i gathered information about my magazine and target audience to craft a script detailing my magazine and its content.

The Pitch allows me to deliver my magazine in a short but professional manner

Planning Task 2: Content Creation

Layout

The layout of my contents page will optimise white space to ensure the page isn't too overwhelming to my audience and will include photographs of the feature articles. This will help grab the reader's attention and interest them in the main articles of the magazine. The listing of the content will contain a brief description of what is covered within that page. The content will be organised into different sections such as 'feature articles', 'Fashion', 'celebrities', 'Lifestyle' and culture. The font used within my magazine will consist of a serif font as many of the condé nast publications follow this style, so to fit in with the trend my magazine house style will consist of a serif font. The listing will consist of bold typography for the content to make it stand out.

How will my contents page be organised?

My contents page will use the combination of images and text to create a page that is visually appealing to my audience and an effective navigation tool for readers. This will be done by optimising white space, using larger typography and emboldened letters for different sections of the magazine and the colours used will fit in with the trend of my magazine house style.

The content will be organised into different sections across a page with images to complement them, the content featured will be 'feature articles', 'Beauty and Fashion', 'Celebrities' and 'Lifestyle'

Feature articles

This section of the magazine will include a topic or issue of current issue and will use facts and opinions to draw in an audience. The feature articles will be listed under 'Charms' as it fits in with the magazine s title and helps boost brand recognition throughout the magazine. This magazine aims to attract the audience by featuring a serious topic that will grab their attention.

Beauty & Fashion

This section was chosen due to responses in my questionnaire which was sent out to my target audience. Fashion will focus not only on female fashion but also male fashion as this magazine is targeted for all genders it will include current trends and styles offering as inspiration to the audience

Celebrities

This section will attract readers by featuring well-known people which helping the magazine sell as people will be interested in these people

Planning Task 1: My Magazine Title and Strapline

I created a word bank of different words related fashion and my target audience to create a name for my magazine:

  • Edge
  • Bold
  • Street
  • Trendy
  • Fascinating
  • Serious
  • Fashion
  • Attire
  • Style
From this i chose the word Fascinating as it means that my magazine is interesting and my magazine will attract strong attention. However Fascinating wasn't a good name for my magazine so i used Charm instead, a synonym of fascinating, as it can be interpreted in two ways, meaning have the power of attracting or delighting someone or 'charm' can be interpreted as a small ornament which can be worn on a necklace or bracelet. Both of these meanings fit into my magazine.

For my strapline i wanted to incorporate the word charm into it, and keep it short so it is more memorable, i came up with the idea of 'discover your charm' as it implies that the reader will be able to find and amplify their style.

Research Task 7: Target Audience

To fully understand my target audience of an age demographic of 16-25 i created a survey containing 10 questions to dissect what my audience is interested in. Majority of my questions were answered by people aged 16-20 and few 20-25 and a mix of genders to be able to explore what both male and female audiences are interested in.

What magazines are the target audience interested in?

Majority of the male respondents were not interested in the concept of magazines however would be more drawn to the idea of social media from this i will be able to create a magazine that has a similar style to certain social media platforms. Different from the male respondents the female audience were interested in certain magazines such as fashion and music magazines from this i will be able to create an area of fashion with my magazine featuring fashionable clothing and accessories that my audience will be interested in.

What aspects of style are the target audience interested in?

Most responses consisted of fashionable clothing however there was some other answers such as accessories like watches which most of the male audience are interested in as well as fragrances and celebrities from this i will be able to feature most of this content within the contents page of my magazine

I asked my target audience if they were interested in a lifestyle magazine aimed at 16-25 year olds most replies were not interested and instead would be more interested with an online form of news like social media platforms such as instagram however releasing a special edition or a cheaper price would encourage my target audience to purchase a magazine
