Planning Task 6: Font Choices

Font choices play a crucial role in how magazines are perceived as they heavily impact the design of the magazine's front cover, communicating with its audience.

Firstly I had to decide what font would be used for my masthead, this is the most important part of the magazine as it is the only part that is shown when displayed on a shelf. I feel a sans-serif font would be most appropriate for my magazine to emphasise the modernity and simplicity of my magazine. I will need to make sure that the masthead has a large enough font to ensure the magazine is seen from a distance.

My first font is a sans serif font which showcases the modernity and simplicity of the magazine, this is the font i have chosen because of this. The second font is a serif font as although most condé nast productions tend to follow a serif font i have decided to step away from this trope as my magazine focuses upon a younger audience and i want to establish a more modern appeal to my magazine. The next font showcases more bubbly text which doesn't show proffesionalism within the magazine which may people overlooking the magazine the magazine is very large and bold however meaning that the masthead can be seen from a distance. The fourth font is very small and would be missed when the magazine is displayed the masthead features a unique font which draw more attention to it however doesn't connote proffesionalism within the magazine. The fifth magazine features a serif font laced with nature this may lead to the magazine being misinterpreted as a nature or gardening magazine.
